Charizard: a Pokelike route you can plan

For a Kanto Story Charmander start, the reviewed Pokelike evolution route is Charmander → Charmeleon at level 16, then Charmeleon → Charizard at level 36. Fire helps against Erika and later Jynx or Exeggutor; the Fire/Flying form also needs protection from its 4× Rock weakness.

Reused from the official-client inspection of September 17, 2026 and the pinned v3.1 evolution guard checks. This concerns ordinary Story species, not every selectable Form, Challenge rule or a guarantee that the current game will offer a capture.

How to obtain Charizard from a Kanto starter

Choose Charmander in Story → Classic → Kanto, then develop it through Charmeleon at level 16 and Charizard at level 36. These are ordinary Pokelike level thresholds. Eviolite, no-evolution challenges and run-specific caps can block an otherwise eligible evolution.

Build around the opening trade-off

Charmander’s recorded opening attack is Incinerate (Fire, special, 60 power). Find an early Water or Grass partner for Brock and Misty rather than relying on Fire alone. The Kanto guide lists Staryu, Psyduck, Poliwag, Oddish and Bellsprout in the first two-map window; offers vary.

Protect its later Fire role

Fire or Flying damage helps against Erika, and Fire helps against Jynx and Exeggutor later. Charizard’s ordinary Fire/Flying typing takes 4× Rock damage. Keep a healthy Water or Grass answer for Rock/Ground targets instead of leaving Charizard first solely because it carried the previous fight. The selectable Mega X type reference below is separate from this ordinary Story route.

Charizard in Pokésort: colour, generation and stage

Pokelike v3.1 records Charizard as red, Gen 1, and Stage 2. Its puzzle types, in order, are Fire / Flying. For a Beats link with Charizard on the left, use Fire against both types of the Pokémon on the right.

These are the official puzzle’s recorded facts, checked September 13, 2026. Basic is stage 0; later stages count earlier evolutions, including babies. Puzzle membership does not establish Story encounter availability.
