Gengar: a Pokelike route you can plan
In the reviewed Kanto Story data, Gastly evolves into Haunter at level 25 and Haunter into Gengar at level 38. Look for Gastly on Maps 3–4, Haunter on Maps 5–6, or a direct Gengar opportunity on Map 9. These are dated encounter windows, not guaranteed offers.
Reused from the official-client inspection of September 17, 2026 and the pinned v3.1 evolution guard checks. This concerns ordinary Story species, not every selectable Form, Challenge rule or a guarantee that the current game will offer a capture.
How to evolve Gengar in Pokelike
Gastly → Haunter: level 25 or above. Haunter → Gengar: level 38 or above. This ordinary Pokelike level route does not require importing the main-series trade method. If evolution is blocked, check Eviolite, a no-evolution challenge or a run-specific evolution cap.
Where to plan your Kanto capture
Gastly is listed in the Maps 3–4 window (Nugget Bridge / Rock Tunnel); Haunter in Maps 5–6 (Silph Co / Safari Zone); Gengar in Map 9 (Victory Road). Keeping an earlier stage and levelling it is an alternative to waiting for the late direct encounter. Neither route guarantees a random capture offer.
When Gengar helps, and what it costs
Ghost damage can help against Sabrina’s Psychic members, but the Gastly line is also Poison and weak to Psychic. Treat it as a conditional attacker with enough HP and an actual Ghost attack, rather than a safe defensive switch. For a direct wild Shiny Gengar target, use the Map 9 route and the ordinary-roll conditions in the Shiny hunting guide.

Gengar in Pokésort: colour, generation and stage
Pokelike v3.1 records Gengar as purple, Gen 1, and Stage 2. Its puzzle types, in order, are Ghost / Poison. For a Beats link with Gengar on the left, use Ghost against both types of the Pokémon on the right.
These are the official puzzle’s recorded facts, checked September 13, 2026. Basic is stage 0; later stages count earlier evolutions, including babies. Puzzle membership does not establish Story encounter availability.
