Pokelike Battle Tower Starters — Unlocks and Regional Choices
Direct answer
A normal Pokémon becomes a permanent Tower starter when its evolution line is recorded in a completed run’s Hall of Fame; merely catching it is not enough. A new v3.5 save can enter Kanto Tower with regional defaults. Once your PC grows, ordinary Tower stages let you choose unlocked lines across generations. Pick for the next opponent and your real move, then apply Vitamins to the line you will reuse.

Unlock a normal or Shiny starter

- Complete a Story, ordinary Tower or qualifying Challenge run with the non-legendary member still in the team, so the finish records that evolution line in the Hall of Fame.
- Return to Battle Tower, choose an unlocked stage, then open the Hall of Fame PC starter selection. Search the line’s earliest form: the selection is stored by evolution-line root rather than as a permanent fully evolved level.
- A recorded Shiny member unlocks the Shiny option for its non-legendary line. Use the Shiny filter in the PC; do not infer that catching a Shiny once is the same as finishing and registering it.
- Pokémon created by team-reroll effects marked as rerolls are excluded from the ordinary Hall of Fame unlock harvest. Endless also has a separate Register reward for an eligible non-legendary member when offered.
What can I pick in each stage?
The normal Tower PC can draw from unlocked lines across generations. The stage’s Dex range describes its ordinary capture pool, not a complete starter whitelist and not every fixed enemy. Restricted Challenges can apply their own generation, type, baby or other filters.
On an empty Hall of Fame the client offers the stage’s default starters. In v3.5 the Tower menu is accessible and Kanto is the first open Tower stage; clear each Tower stage to open the next. Older guides describing a mandatory Story clear reflect a different menu condition.

| Stage | Opening fixed opponents | Practical starter role if available |
|---|---|---|
| Kanto | Erika → Misty → Flint | For an empty Hall of Fame, Charmander is a practical first-opponent choice because Erika opens with Grass/Poison. It is a conditional Tower recommendation, not the Story choice for Brock. If already unlocked, a Fire attacker fills the same job; recruit a Water answer before Flint and a Psychic answer for Agatha. |
| Johto | Volkner → Janine → Jasmine | An owned Ground attacker such as Geodude or Sandshrew is useful into Volkner’s Electric opening; ordinary Tower starters can come from other generations. With only the local defaults, Chikorita resists Electric, while Totodile needs protection. Add Fire for Jasmine, Grass for Brock’s Water/Ground Quagsire, and a Fairy/Steel or other actual answer before Eusine. |
| Hoenn | Gardenia → Glacia → Brawly | Torchic or an owned Fire attacker can answer Gardenia, but Glacia’s Sealeo is Ice/Water and takes neutral Fire damage overall; retain a second attack role. Before Brawly, find a Flying/Psychic answer that can survive. Keep Grass for Juan’s Whiscash/Swampert and an Ice/Fairy role for Drake instead of investing every resource into Fire. |
| Sinnoh | Koga → Aaron → Clemont | Use an owned Ground or Psychic attacker for Poison-heavy Koga, but Stunky is Poison/Dark and blocks Psychic. Fire is valuable into Aaron’s Bug forms; his Wormadam Trash is Bug/Steel and 4× Fire-weak. Clemont’s Rotom forms use Metronome: read their current attack types, and do not send a Ground-only move into Rotom Fan’s Flying immunity. |
| Unova | Roark → Marshal → Clay | The opening shifts Rock → Fighting → Ground. Use Water/Grass/Fighting attacks for Roark, an available Flying/Psychic/Fairy role for Marshal, and Grass/Ice/Water coverage for Clay’s mixed Ground team. Your starting collection is not limited to Gen 5; the ordinary catch pool is #494–649 and does not describe the fixed enemy roster. |
| Kalos | Grant → Emma → Korrina | Grant’s mixed Rock opening needs real Water/Grass/Fighting coverage, followed by Emma’s varied roster and Korrina’s Fighting/Steel group. Fire/Ground helps several Korrina members, but Hawlucha is Ground-immune and Pangoro is Psychic-immune; Fairy is 4× into Pangoro. Prepare a second role before treating a type stack as a complete route. |
| ORAS | Tabitha & Shelly → Aarune → Lisia | ORAS is a second Hoenn-themed Tower stage, not Hoenn Story or Stage 3. Ordinary catches are again #252–386, but you can select your unlocked Hall of Fame starter from other generations. The opening immediately mixes Water, Fire, Ice and Normal; choose a developed generalist with a second matchup answer, then recruit around the next fixed opponent rather than waiting for one perfect team. |

- Check the three upcoming fixed opponents shown on the starter screen. Choose an attack that can solve the first fight while leaving a plausible second role for the next two.
- A higher Trait count can also add a shared defensive weakness. One Shiny gives two points to each represented type, but levels, the actual attack and the upcoming enemy remain relevant.
- Keep upgrades on a line you expect to start repeatedly. A source-attributed older community strategy names Scyther early and Gengar, Charizard and Aerodactyl/Lapras in later planning; those are conditional ideas, not a v3.5 ranking or proof that they are unlocked on your save.
Why is my captured Pokémon missing?

| What happened | What to check next |
|---|---|
| Caught it but did not finish | Finish a run with the ordinary non-legendary member in the final team; check its evolution-line root in the PC. |
| Finished with a legendary | A run-caught legendary does not get the normal non-legendary unlock. Use the egg/shard or specific event path on the legendary guide. |
| Finished with a rerolled member | The client skips members marked as coming from a team-reroll effect in the normal harvest. Register an eligible ordinary catch instead. |
| The PC is filtered | Clear name/type, generation, Shiny, Missing and Mega filters. A special Challenge may enforce additional restrictions. |
| The option exists on another device | Check the game account and save before clearing site data; use the save guide and preserve the better local save. |
Next: investment and the special unlocks
Vitamins cost 200₽; the cap follows your highest ordinary Tower stage clear, up to 50 total points per line. Legendary and Mega starts have their own conditions and should not be inferred from a base Pokémon Form picker.
- Vitamins, paired Attack and the 50-point cap
- Legendary eggs, shards and event starters
- Mega Bracelet and winning-Challenge MVPs
